Using Sisal And Layering Rugs

Layering Rugs Using Sisal

A terrific look in home design is the layering of rugs using sisal, jute, seagrass or abaca as the large base rug as seen in this photo from Architectural Digest. Perhaps you have found the perfect rug but it is the only one and it is too small. Solution: Purchase a large rug for your “base” and layer the smaller rug on top.

Layering rugs is also a great way to save money. Example: The 10 x 14 Tibetan rug is $7500. Reduce your costs by purchasing a 10 x 14 seagrass rug for $ 840.00 and layer it with a 6 x 9 Tibetan for $ 2900.00. You just SAVED $ 3760!

Another benefit of layering is that you can remove the layers rug for the summer months for a more casual and cool feel. Or you can rotate smaller rugs that are already in your home as the “top layer” rug for a fresh look without spending more money.

By the way, the diamond sisal pattern rug shown in the photo is available at Hemphill’s Rugs & Carpets in a variety of sizes and color options. Click HERE to see color and binding options.
