Hemphill's Rugs & Carpets Showroom Serving Southern California

Hemphill’s Rugs & Carpets has one of best floorcovering showrooms in the United States. The space is filled with unique products that you won’t find just anywhere. Designers, who do a lot of shopping, often mention that they have never seen a better selection of carpet and area rugs. In addition, we have made recent additions to our hardwood floor, cork, designer vinyl and unique hard surface selections. Our Torly’s leather plank floor is just one example.

Hemphill’s Rugs & Carpets is constantly adjusting the mix of products offered to our clients. We spend a lot of time and effort selecting new products, phasing out items that are out of favor or discontinued, enhancing our display options and methods and changing the appearance of the showroom. We are in a fashion business and act accordingly.

Hemphill’s Rugs & Carpets also takes careful effort to install great looking flooring on the showroom floor. We recently installed Nourison Grand Textures which is offers a great looking pattern that doesn’t show nearly as well in loose samples.

Also, we have an area where we installed seagrass over 10 years ago. It is quite a tribute to how the product feels and wears.

Hemphill’s Rugs & Carpets now offers Metroflor Hybrid. This product brings the next generation of flooring products by combining the benefits of wood, laminate and resilient flooring. It features a highly resilient 20mil top layer with a ceramic bead finish adhered to an 8mm high density fibreboard. Hybrid offers the latest technology in high performance flooring at an affordable price, creating an incredible value. Hybrid is quiet, warm and comfortable underfoot. Environmentally sustainable and responsible. No adhesive required to install, product installs like laminate flooring. A good quality laminate pad is required as an underlayment. Suitable for residential and most commercial applications. No wax easy maintenance. Hybrid has square edge joins, Hybrid Plus has micro-bevelled edges. Both have a handscraped surface finish. Boards are 7.5″ wide by 48″ long. Both Hybrid & Hybrid plus have a 25 year residential limited warranty. Hybrid has a 7 year commercial limited warranty, Hybrid Plus has a 10 year commercial limited warranty.

Hemphill’s Rugs & Carpets can create any type of rug imaginable. The rug shown here was created from interpreting an old photograph. A son had us make this rug for his father for a birthday present. The photograph was taken of one of the father’s collector cars. The rug will be hung in the father’s garage. What a great piece of art.

The Importance of Fiber

No, we’re not talking about your diet here. Did you know that the fiber of your carpet can be just as important to your home as the actual design on it?

Each type of carpet fiber presents unique strengths for different spaces and uses. Thankfully, Hemphill’s Rugs & Carpets eliminates some of the worry by using only the finest natural and new fibers. So now that you know you’ll be taken care of, it’s time to decide which of the carpet fibers is most suitable for you.

Wool – offers an exceptionally luxurious look combined with a soft, comfortable feel. Wool wears remarkably well, ages beautifully, and is considered to be the finest yarn available. For this reason, wool is easily the first choice for the most discerning carpet buyer. The price of oil has made the price difference between wool and nylon almost insignificant in certain instances.

Nylon – is a wonderful easy-to-clean option for high-traffic areas because of its versatility and wear-resistance. Nylon comes in vibrant, lustrous colors with soft underfoot and is an excellent value. We prefer the Stainmaster nylons for color fastness, feel and stain resistance. The new Luxerell fiber is incredibly soft with no sheen.

Olefin – was originally developed for exterior use, but is now often used in Berbers. As the most moderately priced fiber, olefin does resist stains, fading and moisture, but is still not quite as resilient as nylon.

Sisal and Seagrass Are Great Carpet and Rug Options

Natural Fiber Floorcoverings – Sisal and Seagrass

Of all the natural fiber materials, sisal and seagrass are the most widely used and well known.

To spruce up your home for spring or summer, try changing out your area rugs to sisal or seagrass. This will lighten and brighten your home for the spring and summer months. You can even use area rugs over your existing wall to wall carpet. There are many different patterns within each category of natural floorcoverings, including colors other than the natural color.

These products can be installed wall to wall, (seams are very noticeable and are simply a characteristic of the product and are to be expected) area rugs and even on stairs. Certain fibers, such as seagrass, can also be installed in wet areas such as bathrooms and kitchens provided water is not continuously splashed and left standing.

For installation on stairs, the longitudinal weave must be 90 degrees to the riser and fixed securely. This installation is more labor intensive and may cost more to complete.

Most natural fiber floor coverings can be installed by gluing directly to the floor. In some cases, our seagrass and jute products have an attached urethane cushion. In certain instances, a double stick commercial pad can be used.

The beauty of these products being installed as area rugs is the different binding options that can be used. These products can be bordered with fabric, leather, and many other textile choices.

The latex backing makes these products easy to care for because the latex prevents the build up of dirt underneath. They can be vacuumed with a regular vacuum with a beater bar. Most natural fiber floor coverings are very durable and will wear as well as or better than conventional carpeting as long as they are properly maintained. Many are rated for commercial use!

Another great reason to choose a natural fiber rug is that they are eco- friendly and sustainable. These products are 100% bio degradable and made from real grasses making them an earth friendly choice you can feel good about making.
